Upgrading Policy
The Society’s policy is to maintain the Cottage Homes at a suitable standard for occupation by older people. In achieving this objective the Board is concerned to work within the resources of the Society to ensure that charges to tenants do not increase excessively due to the upgrading work. Consequently the decision has been taken that the upgrading process will be primarily focussed on vacant properties.
When a tenancy is relinquished the accommodation will be assessed for upgrading and a decision will be taken on a case by case basis. Accordingly upgrading will take place gradually over a number of years allowing for phased expenditure. The allocation of upgraded properties will be determined by the Board alone who will take into consideration the requirements of new tenants and the needs of existing tenants
Where an existing tenant wishes to carry out an upgrade at their own cost then this can only be initiated after a written request has been placed before the directors and written approval has been received from a member of the Board.
